Description
EarlySpace worked with the congregation of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church to create the playspace design of their dreams. Volunteers from the church (with a little help from a contractor friend) built everything in their beautiful play space using their incredible skills and the DIY instructions in Nancy’s book, Nature Play at Home: Creating Outdoor Spaces that Connect Children to the Natural World. (Check it out! You could do this too!!!)
This sloping wooded space is now home to an expansive sand play area with a mosaic stream and a working water pump; a sliding hill featuring a slide recycled from their old climbing structure, a drainpipe tunnel, and a stump scramble. There are Adirondak chairs and bench swings for adults and kids. The playhouse village includes a log house built by church members and the repurposed former tower of their old climber. Finally, there is a spectacular climber for big kids that was designed and built by an architect and a grandfather from the congregation.
The church was lucky to have talented volunteers available, and their results are a powerful testament to what time and determination can do.
